ISSUES

John on Leadership vs Browbeating

My many years of public service have given me deep insight into human character.  Through my service, I've developed a strong ability to manage different personalities and peacefully resolve crisis situations. This makes me uniquely qualified as the mayoral candidate who can calmly build consensus among city staff and council members, and also respect the views of taxpayers while offering an open door for those who can provide a new vision for the city.

I pledge trustworthy leadership and open participation that respects you and our business community.

John on Fiscal Responsibility vs Mounting Risks

Significant finance department turnover (3 separate financial appointees within 2 years) is concerning. I support returning discussion of the City Budget to the full Council. Currently, 3 members of the Council – appointed by the mayor – discuss and finalize our budget prior to the full 6 elected members' review. At that point, questioning or securing enough votes to make a budgetary amendment is often a fruitless effort resulting in favored projects, and wasteful spending. Each district elected their representative, and each should have an equal voice in the process.

I will diligently work to be a good steward of your tax dollars applying process transparency and financial accountability.

John on Quality of Life vs Costly Leadership

Franklin deserves a community identity that reflects our strong civic pride. Opportunities to develop a family-focused destination district with retail, residential and recreation, have been set aside in favor of box development in areas lacking water, sewer, and emergency services, costing us more. Success depends on strategic and intentional economic development near the population to use existing city services. Focusing on family needs, and our youth, is key to growing a vibrant community while keeping tax dollars in Franklin.

I support focusing on a destination area that will promote a community identity and attract new businesses.

John on Safety Services vs Stretched Services

With a 29-year career as a law enforcement professional, I understand the importance of feeling safe in your surroundings. Police and Fire services — along with their response time —  are critical to any emergency outcome. Caution and careful review is needed to prevent  extending safety services beyond what our budget can sustain. I support traffic technology to help responders arrive quickly and safely. I encourage building trust and confidence through citizen participation with those who serve, keeping more eyes on our streets.

High standards for police and fire response times are my

commitment to you.
